Ma'an: The U.S.-led coalition has handed over all military bases in the country to Iraqi authorities
The U.S.-led international coalition has handed over all bases and headquarters to the Iraqi authorities, Saad Ma'an, head of the Iraqi security forces' press office, told Al Jazeera. According to him, after September 30, there will be no coalition combat or training units remaining in the country.
Abdul-Amir Al-Shammari, chief of staff to the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, reported that the coalition headquarters will close on September 30. “Iraq is ready to assume responsibility for ensuring security after the withdrawal of coalition forces,” Saad Ma’an added.
The international coalition to combat the “Islamic State” (an organization recognized as terrorist and banned in Russia) was formed in 2014 at the initiative of the United States. The coalition brings together 89 countries and international organizations. As of early 2025, there were approximately 2,500 U.S. military personnel in Iraq.
